Motivation, creativity, and fixing temperamental problems – these can be taken care of superbly by scavenger hunts, which is a corporate team building event. This activity is so popular that it has become an integral part of Banff Team Building activities. Be a part of these activities and you will realize how business owners can think of fostering a sense of team spirit in the company. Basically in corporate establishments it is significant that team building activities take place. When the team members are into self assessment the negative and positive characteristics are seen clearly.

Of course, communication improves in a big way, and this is the core objective handled by any Banff Team Building activity. If you have a team of employees who seem to be disgruntled with each other, which in turn is also impacting your company productivity, the best solution is to call a Banff team building activity, and allow your employees to participate.

Fun is definitely an integral part of Team Building. The basic essence of the Banff Team building act is to ensure that the employees enjoy while understanding the value of cooperating with each other. In doing so, the employees often forget the grudges they have against each other.

But, Banff Team Building activities walk a step further to fix the problems at hand. After the activity you will find that employees have turned into a motivated lot. The various activities in team building teach the employees about the team spirit factor. They tell you how to coordinate well with each other. Now if you have a productive team and the channels of communication between your team members are not transparent, it is time for you to break them.

Lake Louise is a beautiful mountain lake in the middle of Banff National Park in the Alberta Rockies region of Alberta, Canada. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and at the far end is a large glacier. The lake is quite isolated, but provides a magnificent setting for a luxury resort, the Chateaux Lake Louise. This resort is currently undergoing major expansion, and a large conference wing is being constructed on the ‘inland’ side of the hotel. There is a very small town of the same name at the base of the mountain.

Lake Louise Mountain Resort is a ski resort located in Banff National Park, in the village of Lake Louise, Alberta. It can be reached from Banff, from where it is almost a one-hour drive 57 km (35 mi) west on Trans-Canada Highway.

The resort is situated on the southern slopes of the Merlin Ridge of the Slate Range, between the heights of Mount Richardson, Ptarmigan Peak, Pika Peak and Redoubt Mountain, all around 3000 m (10,000 ft) high. The base of the slopes is defined by Pipestone River, a tributary of the Bow River, immediately north of the intersections between Highway 1A (Bow Valley Trail), Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway), and Highway 93 (Icefield Parkway).

PLACE TO VISIT

The main attractions at Lake Louise are the vibrantly coloured glacial lakes and Victoria Glacier at the head of Lake Louise. The lakes to stop and explore are: Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Bow Lake and Peyto Lake.

On the shores of Lake Louise is The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. During the summer you can canoe on the lake and in the winter months they offer ice skating around the ice castle or horse drawn sleigh rides. Every January there is an international ice carving competition held called Ice Magic.

Also Lake Louise Mountain Resort changes with the seasons, a world class ski resort in the winter and a Sightseeing Gondola in the summer.

If you are interested in hiking or climbing you’ve got lots of access to all sorts of trails in this area.

There are over 181,000 kilometers of public roads in Alberta. The Yellowhead Highway (Winnipeg-Edmonton-Prince Rupert-Vancouver) and Highway 2 (USA-Calgary-Red Deer-Edmonton-North Alberta) are the two main roads that serve Alberta. If you are considering making Alberta your home or planning on traveling throughout the province for business or pleasure, you should be aware of the many rules and features associated with driving on Alberta’s roads.

To drive in Alberta, one is required to have a driver’s license. You can apply for a learner’s license from age 14. There are seven classes of license in Alberta. Class 7 is the learner’s license. To obtain a driver’s license, you will not only have to pass a road driving test, but also a vision and written test. Once you have obtained a driver’s license, you are legally mandated to obey all of Alberta’s traffic laws. If you are caught violating traffic laws such as speeding, you will be fined. Alberta Highways have a speed limit of 100 km/h (62 mph). The exception is in the Rocky Mountain National Parks which have speed limits of 90 km/h (56 mph) because of the high number of wildlife crossings the roads. Most rural highways and roads have a speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph).

It is important to note that infant car seats are mandatory in Alberta. As well, a new law is planned that will ban distracting activities while driving. Distracting activities can include talking on a cell phone, texting, shaving …etc. Statistics have revealed that “driver error was a factor in 90% of 158,055 Alberta crashes last year.” As well, according to the province’s Transportation Ministry, “rural highways and streets were the site of 70 per cent of the 376 fatal collisions in Alberta last year.”

In Alberta, the Traffic Safety Act and regulations under the Act cover driver training and driver examinations, demerit points, inspections, and commercial vehicles. Alberta requires vehicle safety inspections for all vehicles on the road.

All motor vehicles and trailers in Alberta have to be licensed before they are allowed on the road. As well, all motor vehicles in Alberta must have a public liability insurance policy. The minimum liability insurance in Alberta is $200,000. You are required to have proof of your insurance when registering a vehicle.

Alberta has a Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program to license new drivers. The purpose of the program is to help new drivers acquire the skills and experience required for driving a vehicle safely. Driver licenses from all countries are valid in Alberta for up to three months. An International Driving Permit that can be acquired in one’s native country is valid in Alberta for one year.

The Alberta Government recommends that drivers have snow tires when traveling in the province in late fall, winter, or spring. They also suggest that drivers should have anti-freeze, warm clothing, and food and water when crossing through mountain passes.

Alberta is a great place to travel by car. It contains diverse scenery such as the Rocky Mountains, Banff National Park, many beautiful open spaces, and much more. When traveling by car in Alberta, it is important to be aware of the province’s driving rules and regulations.

When was the last time you visited Canada? It is a large and very nice country indeed. A long time ago I had the chance to visit Banff Springs Hotel. Nestled in the Canadian Rockies is a beautiful hotel that visitors from all over the world flock to. It’s a perfect hotel for celebrating a wedding and perfect for a couple in need of some special away time. It’s the Banff Springs Hotel and if you love the crisp Canadian air, you will take pleasure in spending a weekend lapping up the comfort of this northern treasure.

The hotel itself is located in one of Canada’s most lovely national parks. It’s also near the resort town of Banff, which is a beautiful city by the way. For people who reside in Alberta, the Banf fSprings Hotel is known as much as a travelers place to visit as it is a site we love to drive to. It’s only a few hours drive from almost anywhere in the province and once you arrive there you are treated like royalty by the staff.

If you love skiing, you may certainly go to a lot of the local ski areas and later spend your night at the hotel. Banff is home to some of the globe’s premier ski runs and once you have used up all your energy on the hills you may enjoy a delectable mid-evening meal at the hotel.

Aesthetically it’s probably one of the most architecturally interesting buildings you will ever see. There are a lot photos {on the Web|on Internet|online of the Banff Springs Hotel taken from atop one of the area’s mountains. Images that showcase the hotel in spring are often sprinkled with the imposing greenery from the surrounding trees. In the winter you will enjoy the stark white site that is ever present in those months in the Canadian Rockies.

This is surely one of the most attractive holiday places to go for both Americans and travelers from other countries. It’s important that if you decide you want to stay at the Banff Springs Hotel that you reserve early. You can certainly make a reservation directly with the hotel, or if you want you can go through one of the various discount travel sites that offer accommodations around the world.

It’s difficult to tell whether one time of year is better for a vacation to this region of Canada. During the spring and summer seasons you can expect to enjoy warm temperatures with minimal rain. The fall is clearly a great period to stay at the hotel as you will have the advantage of looking at the trees in the area, in their autumn magnificence. For those who thrive in the cold, a visit to the Banff Springs Hotel during the winter season will reveal a white wonderland. Nothing is more spectacular than looking outside of your room at the hotel to see the snow falling. It really is a winter wonderland like no other. So next time you are thinking about visiting a great country you will know where to go.

Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise make up the three ski areas of Banff. All three resorts are unique in their own way with Mount Norquay being the closest to town, a quick 15 minute drive from downtown.

Mount Norquay is particularly popular with ski racers and locals who like steep fall line skiing; this is what the resort is really all about. Although the ski area is relatively quiet with a spacious and charming lodge, the skiing is not really suited to beginner and novice skiers. Unless you are a competent parallel skier, the trails at Norquay will seem daunting. My advice as a former ski instructor in the area would be to recommend this resort to “seasoned’ skiers” who like the challenge of steeps, bumps and hard pack conditions.

Sunshine Village is the next resort closest to town and can be found by driving West on Highway 1 towards Lake Louise. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes but can take longer on stormy days. Once you arrive at the car park you must ride the gondola to reach the ski area. This takes about twenty two minutes normally. Sometimes on very cold days (Often in December and January) the gondola will not run first thing probably for safety reasons. There are also occasions when windy conditions affect the time duration of the gondola ride.

he skiing conditions at Sunshine Village are generally excellent from early December (and often earlier) until late May. This is primarily due to its location and relatively high altitude which is comparable to high elevation European resorts.

Most British tourists who visit Sunshine Village fall in love with the scenery, light snow and skiing. The resort is of average size (compared to European and US resorts) and the trails are suitable for all levels except experts. If you are a “die hard” skier who has skied some of the serious resorts of the world you may find Sunshine unimpressive. This is because the trails are relatively short and not particularly steep. Delirium Dive is the one exception but this area is often closed for much of the season for safety reasons.

If you are a beginner skier you may find the learning area small and often crowded on weekends and holidays. However once you graduate away from this area you will find many enjoyable “green trails” to keep you happy.

For Intermediate skiers who make parallel turns or semi parallel turns Sunshine Village is a perfect place to ski. The vast majority of trails here are ideally suited for this level of skier who will love the wide open slopes and great conditions.

Sunshine Village is a truly beautiful resort to see and ski at. Most people who come here have a positive skiing experience and except for the cold weather (December and January particularly) it is hard to fault Sunshine.

The last area that makes up the ski areas of Banff is Lake Louise. Lake Louise is particularly good for intermediate to advanced skiers. Although the ski area is relatively big most of the trails are not particularly suited for beginner and novice skiers. The initial learning area however is very good (with the exception of the T-bar lift which most beginners and novices dislike). However once this area is mastered (usually between one and three days) the next step is relatively large.

Although there are many “green trails” on the front side and backside of the mountain, most of them are not particularly easy. What compounds this problem is that the front side is often hard packed and scraped due to the artificial snow that is made here. The backside does not suffer with this problem however the only trail down the mountain is a narrow path which is often intimidating for novice skiers.

For most intermediate skier’s Lake Louise is normally a wonderful experience with an abundance of long trails. In my opinion the better skiing is to be found on the backside particularly the Larch Area. Advanced skiers will also love the backside particularly on a “powder day”.

To sum up my analysis of the three areas and where one should ski when visiting Banff this is my recommendation.

Mount Norquay

Mount Norquay is ideally suited to competent parallel skiers and not beginner or novices.

Lake Louise

If you are a first time skier Lake Louise has the best learning area of all three mountains. Except for the T-bar lift, most beginner and early novice skiers make good progress here. Lake Louise is not so good for the same skiers after two days of learning as the next step up the mountain is quite challenging for most. Many of the Lake Louise “green trails” are steep, narrow or hard pack. The front side of the mountain (especially lower down nearer the bottom) is often icy and hard packed due to man made snow. The backside of the mountain is usually much better for most levels of skier.

Sunshine Village

Sunshine Village is ideal for most skiers except experts. The resort has a small beginner area that gets busy on weekends and holidays. The scenery and snow at Sunshine Village are breathtaking and except for the early season (December and January when it can be very cold) Sunshine skiing is hard to fault.

If you are a competent parallel skier I would suggest you try all three resorts and decide for yourself which is your favourite. Happy skiing this winter.

Banff National Park is one of the most spectacularly beautiful destinations in Canada, and one of its most famous tourist attractions. It is beloved for both its overwhelming landscapes, beautiful and tame wildlife, and outdoor activities. Four million tourists visit Banff every year, which indicates that whether you’re Canadian or a visitor from abroad, Banff National Park offers something for everyone.

Banff was delared Canada’s first national park in 1885. In more recent years it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of its rugged but sublime scenery set in the Rocky Mountains. The national park takes up 6641 square kilometers (that’s 2564 square miles for Americans), with mountain peaks reaching over 3030 meters (that’s 10,000 feet) in elevation. Its grassy meadows, shale mountains, limestone covered in lichen, and forests of spruce, pine, fir and aspen trees all combine to create an other-worldly kind of beauty you will never forget.

The wildlife of Banff is also spectacular. There are 54 kinds of mammals living here, for example grizzly bears, cougars, white tailed deer, mule deer, moose, elk, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. The woodland caribou, an endangered spiecies, are also found there. Banff is not like other national parks where you have to walk for hours and far off the beaten path to find animals. It is almost impossible to avoid them unless you stay in your hotel room the whole time. Animals share this park with humans, and will become a regular part of your day while you’re there.

There are many activities to enjoy in Banff including birdwatching, fishing, exploring the caves of Castleguard, dipping into hot springs, and boating. It is also a center of winter sports, with skiiers and snowboarders from all over the world coming here for a dream holiday of riding the slopes amidst the heavenly natural wonders.

Unless you are coming for skiing/snowboarding, which is possible from December into April (and possibly in mid-late November if you’re lucky), then the best season to visit Banff is July and August when the summer weather is mild. Days will be moderately warm and nights will be pleasantly cool. All other seasons are cold, so if you come outside of summer make sure to bring plenty of warm clothes

After catching a lovely and much needed rest at the historic Twin Gables Bed and Breakfast we set off to explore the immediate neighbourhood, the restaurant area on 4th Street. We were going to walk, but considering I had been really sick with an aweful chest cold in the last few days, venturing out into the cold evening air had me a little leery. Henry from the Twin Gables was really kind to offer us a drive a few blocks up to a restaurant called Il Giardino, one of the places that had come highly recommended for this area from Tourism Calgary.

We entered a Mediterranean-looking restaurant that was just packed with people. We sat down at a cozy table and had a chance to spend some time with the owner, Mike Ciccaglione, and his restaurant manager Dorothy, to find out more about this establishment. Wherever I go I try to get the human stories, and boy, was I in for an interesting one here. I did not realize that I had connected with one of Calgary’s most successful entrepreneurs, a real immigrant success story.

Mike was born in the Italian region of Molise and left Italy when he was 16 years old to study business administration and restaurant and hotel management in Switzerland. He came to Canada in 1962 following which he worked in a variety of hotels and restaurants in Calgary and Banff. He also studied English as a second language. In 1967 he opened his first restaurant called the Prairie Dog Inn which initially specialized in Mexican food.

As if that wasn’t enough, Mike went on to open the Mexican Village chain of fast food restaurants in several shopping malls and in 1980 he opened the “Pied Pickle” chain.

Logically he decided to expand his business to encompass the supply and distribution of tortillas and other Mexican foods: El Molino food manufacturing was born. This company manufacturers Mexican food products as well as pizzas and Italian pasta dishes and distributes its products to warehouses in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.

In 1998 Mike opened “Il Giardino” (the ultimate in Italian food and fun), a restaurant where all the dishes were home-cooked had always been his big dream.

When we walked into this restaurant I had no idea that we we would meet such a successful Canadian entrepreneur. At the same time, you’d never know it – Mike walks around in casual clothing, laughs and smiles a lot and always keeps his eyes open to check on his guests’ enjoyment. During our conversation he got up several times to greet or say goodbye to guests and Dorothy referred to him as a “big flirt”. It is plainly obvious that even at 65 years of age, Mike loves what he is doing and Dorothy told us that he does the rounds throughout his various Calgary businesses on a daily basis. Mike is one of those people who loves his work and always has a twinkle in his eyes.

Dorothy has an interesting story herself: she is originally from Montreal and her husband, an engineer in the oil industry, hails from England. Before Calgary they have lived in Montreal, St. John’s / Newfoundland, as well as Jakarta where they ended up as refugees in Singapore for a month during President Suharto’s coup. Now they settled into a calmer life in Calgary.

Mike attributes his success to a strong commitment to quality ingredients and preparation, and he credits great support from his wife Lucy, his daughter Judy and his son Michael Jr. for much of his fortune and he hopes that one day his children will take over. He also recognizes the importance of his employees as a critical success factor. He told us that he feels it’s very important to reward his employees and many of the staff at the Il Giardino Restaurant have been there 10 and more years. A young couple, the evening manager and the hostess, have 15 years of service (5 years at Il Giardino and 10 years at the Pied Pickel) between them and Dorothy confirmed that people really enjoy the work here. Mike says “You’re nobody until people make you somebody”, that’s why treats his employees well and appreciates his winning team.

The construction of Il Giardino is a story in itself: Mike designed the restaurant and one of his long-time friends, Walter Petrin, did all the brickwork while his other great friend Vic Finot was the general contractor. Every Friday he and these two special friends get together to solve the problems of the world. Strangely enough, the next day the problems start all over again.

Outside of work Mike loves to spend time with friends, some of whom he has known for 40 years now. His family is very supportive of him and his wife dedicates a lot of her time to charitable work. Mike also supports the United Way and various fundraising drives for breast cancer and the Calgary Children’s Hospital.

He still goes back to Italy every once in a while although he says he’s seen almost everything in his home country. So now he is thinking of traveling to places like Asia, Africa and Latin America as long as it is safe and reasonably clean. Mike loves soccer and he even used to own a local soccer team that was called the El Molinos Dinos. Another one of Mike’s big passions is his Ferrari and he said that every once in a while he puts it on sale just to see the interest on the part of potential purchasers. But when it comes down to it he really has no intention of selling it.

But that’s not all: Mike is a movie star as well! He has had roles in “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” as well as in “Cool Runnings”. It seems Mike is always up to something, and when you listen to his list of endeavours it seems incredible that one person can get all this done.

Mike embodies hospitality and while we were there he insisted that we get a real taste of what his kitchen is capable of. For starters we got to sample Il Giardino’s soups: I tasted a Stracchiatelle egg drop soup while my husband got the “Brodo con Polpettine e Pasta” (chicken broth with tiny meatballs and pasta). Then I got to sample a taste of Il Giardino’s famous Calamari (extremely tasty and tender) while Nigel had their Bruschetta bread. We also received a sampler plate of appetizers – Antipasto Italiano (prosciutto with melon).

That wasn’t all: we also got a taste of Il Giardino’s home-made Gnocchi della Nonna which, by the way, are home-made by Mike’s 70 year old sister. Then, we couldn’t believe it, the main course arrived: a sampler plate of three of Il Giardino’s specialties: Pollo ai Funghi (chicken breast in a white wine sauce topped with mushrooms), Piccata al Limone (veal in lemon and white wine sauce), and Agnello al Rosmarino (rack of lamb in a rosemary, mint and red wine sauce). I am not usually a huge meat eater, but these dishes were phenomenal, the meat was tender, the sauces very tasty without being overpowering. Mike topped a fabulous meal off with a tasting of the most famous Italian desert: tira misu.

Without exaggeration, our culinary experience at Il Giardino ranks right up there as one of my best restaurant experiences of a life-time, the food was that delicious. I love Italian food, and the folks at Il Giardino certainly know how to prepare Italian delicacies. We had to take a doggy bag back to our bed and breakfast, there was no way we could actually eat all this delicious food. There is no doubt that Il Giardino serves great, freshly made food. And even more so, it was a pleasure to meet the creator behind this welcoming neighbourhood institution.
